The 2021 Sitka International Cello Seminar is now accepting applications for our two summer sessions. The Sitka-based Residential Seminar is scheduled for July 5-25. There will also be a one-week Virtual Seminar option for students age 16+, hosted online June 28 – July 3.
At this time we are planning to host an in-person residential seminar in July, 2021. Of course, we are paying close attention to health and safety concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic, but our hope is that enough advances in testing and vaccinations will have been made by the summer to enable us to gather safely. Applicants should be aware that COVID precautions will be in place, including possible requirements around testing/vaccinations, mask-wearing & social distancing. The details of these precautions will be determined in late spring as we know more about the current situation.
The Sitka International Cello Seminar brings together top collegiate cellists from around the world for an intensive course with international artist Zuill Bailey and Master Teacher Dr. Melissa Kraut. This unique 3-week immersion experience allows ample time for learning and reflection in the beautiful setting of Sitka, Alaska. Dr. Kraut & Mr. Bailey offer an incomparable dual approach to private lessons, master classes, audience engagement & personal development. Student enrollment is limited to 10 participants, creating an unprecedented 5:1 ratio with these two acclaimed leaders.
Students and faculty reside and rehearse in the Miner Music Center at Stevenson Hall, on the historic Sheldon Jackson campus. Community engagement performances are scheduled in a variety of Sitka locations, including hospitals, shelters & local restaurants. Meals are included with tuition.
