National Bike to Work Week May 13-18. As in past years, those cyclists who ride their bike to work, school or on errands during the week can go to Yellow Jersey Cycle Shop anytime to enter the raffle for a $100 gift certificate to the shop. The winner will be announced on Saturday May 18th at the Julie Hughes Triathlon. The more days a person rides to and from work the more times the more the can enter to win, the maximum is 5 for people who rode every day that week. Blessing of the Bikes will take place on Wed. May 15 at 6:30pm at the Crescent Harbor Shelter, followed by the Worldwide Ride of Silence at 7pm.

Annual Community Bike Ride on Sat., May 25. We celebrate the 128th anniversary of the first bike seen in Sitka (on May 28, 1891) with a ride through downtown Sitka. Family friendly event and people are encouraged to bring any classic or unusual bikes. We hope to have someone available to do minor maintenance before the ride (pump up tires, oil chains, tighten brake cables, etc.)
Alaska Walk & Bike Conference on June 4-8 at the Aspen Suites Hotel. Get info & schedule at walkbikealaska.wordpress.com/ and you can also register here. The final day has an optional bike ride, an optional hike with harbor cruise (with fee), and a Walk/Bike Alaska organizational meeting. The cost is $40 for the full conference, and $25 each for the two-day Smart Cycling and walk/bike presentations programs.
