The SE Alaska Farmers Summit will take place Fri. Feb. 15 thru Sun. Feb. 17 at Sweetland Hall on the SFAC campus, and at Harrigan Centennial Hall. There also is an optional all-day produce grower safety training on Mon., Feb. 18. This conference happens every other year, with past locations being Petersburg (2015) and Haines (2017). For a peak at the 2017 Summit, see www.alaskawatershedcoalition.org/community-food-sustainability/safs2017/
The summit features a variety of local farmers discussing what works and doesn’t work for their operations in SE Alaska. There also will be in-depth training sessions on topics such as cover crops, composting, pest disease management, employees and interns, hydroponics, and more. The summit is being coordinated by the SE Alaska Watershed Coalition. We will need volunteers to help provide rides to/from airport/ferry terminal. Please contact Charles Bingham at 623-7660 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
