Animal Friend Volunteers
Sought by Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter
Attention all animal lovers! The Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers – particularly those able to cover morning or evening shifts at the Sitka Animal Shelter.
- Whether you can commit to a couple hours each week or a few days per month, we welcome all volunteers willing to lend a helping hand.
- As a volunteer, you help care for animals in need by walking dogs, cleaning kennels, socializing with cats, and assisting with outreach events.
- No experience is required, just a love for animals and a willingness to learn.
- We offer flexible scheduling, hands-on training, and a supportive environment.
If you’re interested in joining our team and making a positive impact on the lives of animals in our community, please contact us at sitkaanimalfriends@gmail.
Friends of Sitka Animal Shelter is a local non-profit group, focused on caring for animals housed at the City-operated shelter, creating fostering and adoption networks, arranging spay and neutering services and assisting pet owners with education. The group has also created file of animals ready for adoption.
Made up of shelter volunteers and other animal lovers, the group will focus first on developing the volunteer corps as well as growing an organized foster and adoption network.
The Friends’ board assists in these efforts, with a long-term goal of upgrading the existing Shelter facilities. The Shelter at times can house as many as six dogs and two dozen cats, all of which need food, water, exercise and medical care. Socialization with other animals and humans is also a challenge, most especially so that each animal can eventually be placed in a permanent home.
