Indigenizing Education for Alaska (IEA) – Sealaska Heritage — in partnership with UAS  — operates this program to grow the number of Alaska Native teachers and administrators and improve educational opportunities for Alaska Native students. The IEA program aims to: recruit future Alaska Native educators, prepare Alaska Native educators, retain and uplift current Alaska Native educators.

  • Covers tuition, fees, and books for students taking summer and fall courses at UAS.

Eligibility:  The IEA scholarship is offered to qualified students who are:

  • Alaska Native; and
  • Admitted to UAS as a junior/senior undergraduate or graduate student; and
  • Enrolled in a qualifying UAS School of Education course or program; and
  • Whose cumulative GPA is 2.0 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate) or better.

Prospective candidates who meet the criteria above are encouraged to complete this application.  If you do not meet the criteria outlined above, please call the IEA staff at (907) 596-9205.  We will do our best to help you determine your status and options.

In addition, the following supplemental documents will be required for your application to be complete and considered for award.  Please ensure these documents are sent to SHI:

  1. A copy of the applicant’s Tribal Enrollment Card or Certificate of Indian Blood
  2. Proof of admissions/enrollment to UAS SOE
  3. Proof of enrollment in a qualified course(s)–i.e. Summer 2023 Course Schedule
  4. Proof of qualifying GPA–i.e.  Unofficial College Transcript
