Share Your Culture 2025 Series

Seeking Alaska Native Artists - Apply by 02/15/25

The Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum is seeking proposals for their “Share Your Culture/ Share Your Research” Series – to be held on Zoom in April & May of 2025.

Speakers will give a 50-60 minute Zoom presentation in one of six categories:

  1. Talk on your art form or culture or relevant topic
  2. Share a traditional story or several stories
  3. Provide an art-making demonstration
  4. Teach several dances and songs
  5. Share a traditional Alaska Native recipe and give a cooking demonstration
  6. Give a presentation on Alaska Native cultures or interests — on a topic that you have researched for higher education, publication, professional interest, or for your work for tribes, villages or corporations.

** This can include presentations on sovereignty, boarding schools in Alaska, subsistence, language, TEK (traditional ecological knowledge), or museum collections with Alaska Native material. More ideas are welcome.

The deadline to apply is February 14th. Applications are available at the Sheldon Jackson Museum or applicants may email Jacqueline.Fernandez-Hamberg@alaska.gov for an application.

The Zoom events will be open to the general public, recorded, and then placed on the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum YouTube Channel. They may also be posted to Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum Facebook page and social media pages.
