Mr. Chuck Miller will MC an event at Naa Kahidi in support of the Hitx’i Saani project – the cabin community being built by Sitka Homeless Coalition. The first 90 people through the door get a free fish dinner prepared by chef Renee Jakaitis-Trafton from BEAK! Rachel Moreno’s words always stick with me – that homelessness did not exist pre-colonization in the way it does now. Let’s do something about that. There is also an online fundraiser.

The Sitka Homeless Coalition (SHC) will have its 2022 annual meeting from 6pm – 8pm at the Sheet’ká Ḵwáan Naa Kahídi Community House on Wednesday, December 7th.  Supporters and members of the public are welcome to join and the first 90 people to arrive will receive a complimentary meal prepared by Beak Chef Renee Trafton with fish donated by Seafood Producers.  The event will feature:

  •  A silent auction
  • Plans for the Hítx’i Sáani cabin community
  • A live performance from Sitka Ukulele 100
  • A special presentation on the history and plan to end homelessness in Sitka with on-going community support.

For more information go to  or contact SHC executive director Andrew Hinton at

Donations can be made online at, or by check, payable to Sitka Homeless Coalition, that can be mailed to 401 HPR or anonymously placed in the night drop box at ALPS Federal Credit Union.

Ending Homelessness and building a 12-cabin neighborhood at the end of Jarvis Street was selected as a top Sitka Health Summit goal in 2021.  The group’s plan is to break ground and build in 2023. More details will be provided at the SHC annual meeting from 6-8pm on Dec. 7th at the Sheet’ká Ḵwáan Naa Kahídi.

**The Sitka Rotary Club is doing a November dollar-for-dollar match, up to $2,000, of all contributions to the “Shelter-for-all in Sitka” fundraising campaign.  The fundraising challenge runs till Nov. 30th.
