Transition Sitka is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, local grassroots organization.
Our Vision: Sitka: Resilient, Thriving, Carbon Free! Our Mission: To foster greater energy efficiency and self-reliance, to reduce waste and end dependence on fossil fuels. Our initial goals: reduce our dependence on fossil fuels through electrification and other clean energy sources, and increase local food security. Our guiding principle: incorporate new volunteers and work with existing organizations with compatible goals. To that end we welcome YOUR vision and ideas! Come see us at our Farmer’s Market table.
Other areas we hope to explore:
- What about Heat Pumps: How do they work? Making them affordable. What about installation?
- What hydro-power can do for us: A look at our capacity. Options for greater efficiency. Options for increased green energy generation.
- Getting There and Back: Electrifying transport: cars, busses and boats.
- Grow Your Own: Community and home Gardens. Urban agriculture/mixed farming. Community composting.
