Artist Profile: Olivia the dog & Fate Accompli

It’s not a very well-kept secret, or perhaps not hush-hush at all, that Olivia is the sweetest and indeed the most kenspeckle girl on Lincoln Street. Yes, she’s a ‘Bethel Special’, one of a very select tribe of dogs from far up north. But she’s a special special. Originally from Kwigillingok she may be, and Bethel may claim her, but Sitka has her!

All of us brave enough to venture downtown (and perhaps thousands of lucky visitors from the summer) have been able to enjoy Olivia, thanks to the proprietors of Fate Accompli. Just take a walk under the blooming arch of nasturtiums, and you can enter a magical world of art plus bonhomie and encounter her friendly wagging tail.

Olivia: oh, she has those big brown eyes, luxuriant blonde fur, and the ability to soothe, understand and heal with a wag of her tail. But there seems more to her. She has snuggled herself into the hearts of folks here in Lingít Aani as though she were a born and bred Southeast dog, and she doesn’t seem to mind the rain or miss the cold. Indigeneity seems transformed! Are we not fortunate?

So, stroll downtown when you can and visit Olivia.

Fate Accompli is an art studio, gallery and rockworks operated by local artist-owners Ken and Rachel Fate. Presenting the work of 15 local artists, Fate Accompli is located at 321 Lincoln St. Suite A, Sitka, AK 99835, and can also be found at fate-accompli.com.
