Host an AFS Exchange Student!

Sitka AFS Exchange for 2024-25 School Year

Sitka AFS is reaching out to interested Sitka families to host an AFS high school exchange student for the 2024-25 school year.

  • Students come from Bangladesh, Albania, Moldova, Ghana, Morocco, Jordan, Kenya, Mali, South Africa, Germany, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, West Bank, Senegal, Indonesia, India… more than 50 countries.
  • AFS students are 15-18 years old, attend Sitka High School, and are carefully selected to be good ambassadors of their countries.
  • Hosting families provide a nurturing environment and are curious and interested in other parts of the world. Families do not need to have high school age children to host. Local support is available. Any family may apply to host.

Now is the time to apply to host students arriving August 2024. Call Connie Kreiss (907) 747-5387 or Erica Knox (907) 738-9204 for more information, or email

You can also visit and the afsusa Facebook Page for more info. about the historic and current U.S. (and international) organization.

Ed. note:  All of the photos above & below were taken at the Library Event held on Nov. 14, 2023 to Celebrate International Education Week. The event featured presentations by five of the 2023-24 Sitka AFS and Rotary students (to celebrate International Education Week). The students shared generously and beautifully about their lives, their home countries and the school year in Sitka, Alaska.

The photo above is a slide showing a world map. The photos below are of:  the group of five students (with Toby Campbell), Rotary’s Enzo Germano from Brazil, and AFS student Nadine Fikrah from Indonesia. Also presenting were Amira Seel from Germany, Kaupo Piir from Estonia, and Elbek Sadirbekovich Masheapov from Kyrgyzstan (shown in the group photo).
