About Us

The Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum is dedicated to supporting the Museum and its unique Alaska Native ethnographic collection, through advocacy, acquisition & educational programming.

The Friends also support the museum by assisting in purchasing new artifacts for the Museum’s permanent collection, and the “hands-on” educational collection which educators all over Alaska can check out and use in their classrooms. The Friends provide financial support publishing museum-related materials and a quarterly newsletter. They assist in applying for grants which fund research and educational programs, and underwrite the annual Native Artists Residency Program.

Most of our members live in Sitka and Southeast Alaska, and those remaining live throughout the United States. The Board of Directors is a seven member board of volunteers elected to a three year terms by the membership.
