Sitka Rotary Club

Is Seeking New Members

Associated Business
Announcement

Our club is seeking new members who want to make a difference – locally and internationally. The Sitka Rotary Club was chartered on January 30, 1941.

We are a diverse group of community members committed to making Sitka a great place to live, work, and help each other out – while having fun along the way!

Throughout our 83 years our club has done a variety of projects:

  • Providing dictionaries to third graders at Keet Gooshi Heen Elementary School
  • Co-sponsoring “Kids Fishing Day Derby” at Swan Lake each year, with Alaska Dept. of Fish & Game and the US Forest Service
  • Walking the Sitka streets and picking up trash twice a year
  • Providing bike lights to those in need in Sitka
  • Organizing “Bike Rodeos” that focus on bicycle maintenance and safety
  • Creating a gazebo at what is now the skateboard park
  • Partnering with Sitka Girl Scouts to put a crosswalk in near the old McDonald’s
  • Coordinating affordable wildlife cruises for community members (these cruises also serve to raise funds for our club’s activities)
  • Raising money thru the Annual Sitka Rotary Duck Race (enabling us to do projects & provide grants to other Sitka non-profits)
  • Enjoying annual pumpkin carving and Christmas parties at the Pioneer Home
  • Providing educational scholarships to Tanzanian school girls
  • Donating money to provide ShelterBoxes in vulnerable places worldwide (ShelterBox USA is the US arm of an international organization whose mission is “To build awareness of global displacement and to facilitate providing families with life-saving shelter and essential tools and supplies that will enable them to rebuild their homes and transform their lives after disaster.”)
  • Creating Kiva international loans (that provide crowdfunded loans to the underserved worldwide)
  • Providing funds for the statue at the Pioneer Home (maintaining the statue)
  • Doing maintenance, clean-up, and repair annually at Goddard Hot Springs
  • Sponsoring and hosting international exchange students
  • Sending kids to Rotary’s Youth Leadership Academy

Please Note: this is just some of what we have done and still do.
