About Us

Sitkans Against Family Violence (SAFV) is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary shelter and empowerment-based safety and trauma-informed advocacy services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, while promoting a community of nonviolence and respect.

SAFV is located in the City and Borough of Sitka, Alaska, and serves Sitka, as well as the surrounding Southeast Alaska communities of Port Alexander, Kake, and Angoon.

SAFV has two main areas of work: advocacy and prevention. In our direct services work, SAFV’s advocates work closely with victims of violence to help them re-build their lives, free from violence. In prevention, SAFV’s specialists work to create systems and programs within our community that promote healthy relationships and respect in an effort to create a strong, thriving community where violence is outside the norm. Both advocacy and prevention are essential to ending violence within our community.

SAFV provides temporary shelter and comprehensive services for survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

SHELTER:

SAFV provides a safe, comfortable home for our residents. We maintain a shelter with capacity for 24 women and children who are victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Shelter services are available for those in emergency situations who need immediate safety as well as survivors of past trauma and abuse who need temporary, safe living conditions. Residents work with our trained advocates for personal support, safety planning, and to access the support services they need to build a safe life on their own. Our children’s advocate works with resident children to provide personal support, family services, and respite childcare.

If you would like to talk to an advocate about staying at the SAFV shelter, please call us at 907-747-3370. If you would like to donate items to the shelter, please see our Donate page for a list of needs and donation guidelines.
