Sheldon Jackson Museum, founded in 1888, houses an exceptional collection of Alaska Native ethnographic material gathered by Presbyterian missionary and General Agent of Education for Alaska, the Rev. Dr. Sheldon Jackson. Located at 104 College Drive, the octagon structure was the first concrete building in Alaska, and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1972.
A related organization – The Friends of the Sheldon Jackson Museum – is dedicated to supporting the Sheldon Jackson Museum and its unique collection through advocacy, acquisition, and educational programming. This is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Summer hours at the Sheldon Jackson Museum, in effect until September 30th. Visitors 18 and under are admitted free of charge. Assistance is available for visitors with special needs.
Beginning October 1, the museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm and by appointment only on Tuesdays. For more information on operations or events or the residency program, contact the museum by calling (907) 747-8981.
